Just saying
MYTHS BUSTING: ‘You have to be strong to carry big babies, toddlers or preschooler’. False! Many people come to see me with ill-fitted or unsuitable slings or carriers thinking it’s the end of their babywearing days and that their baby is now too heavy to be carried. Others think you have some kind of carrying deadline (like at 3, 6 or 12 month old). Many don’t see the benefits of carrying toddlers in a sling but will give back breaking piggy back rides. You CAN carry big babies/toddlers/preschoolers in a SUITABLE sling or carrier (keep swiping for port of!). Totally possible. And no, don’t have to be strong. Like at all. You can tandem carry twins or baby and a toddler. Buckle carriers come in (more or less) expandable models where they grow gradually with baby and you can get toddler or preschooler sized carriers. Those will ensure your little (or not so little!) is supported at the base from knee-to-knee which not only helps promote healthy hip development for the little ones and optimum positioning, but also helps lift their weight and make feel weightless. You should always carry supported from knee-to-knee with the top of the panel reaching the neck (can be a bit lower down for bigger babies/kids but not lower than top of the shoulders). The more the legs hangs, the more the weight pulls on your body. Woven wraps and Meh dais are also fab slings to carry big ones! Thicker fabrics or multi-layers wrapping often offer more support. Your body doesn’t have to be strong. What does ‘strong’ means anyway? You don’t need to be a heavy weights lifter or body builder to be ‘strong’. It’s all about the sling! If you have back problems, always listen to your body and please please please, get your sling checked up by one of us slingy people! Some adjustments can make a massive difference; sometimes we might have to recommend something else if your sling isn’t the most suitable. Come see us! Love, Mel ♥️
REPOST @hackneynappynetwork It’s our summer Meet, Give & Take event this Wednesday 10-11:30 @old_school_rooms!
HAPPY FATHERS’ DAY to all of you awesome dads, stepdads, male carers and father figures out there!! You do a great job, you matter, and no, you don’t ‘babysit’ your kids. My own papa left us many decades ago, but I nonetheless think of him every year 🥰 Enjoy your special day, and remember that every day is fathers’ day, even the shit days ♥️
