🥶Winter is here!! I think it’s fair to say it now! 🥶BABYWEARING IN THE COLD: It’s super mega cold outside so make sure you keep your baby and yourself nice and warm and avoid overheating (yes, it can happen!). Here are some hacks, tips and guidance to keep warm. ❄️ Avoid snowsuits and puffer jackets/coats. They are too bulky which means it’s very hard to tighten your sling properly to get good positioning and keep your baby’s head well supported. They can also make your baby overheat as it’s not breathable. Also, If scrunched up, they can stop insulating and your baby can get cold! So just ditch them! Use lots of layers (woolen cardigans are fab!). You can also put your baby’s thick coat over your carrier/sling to keep them warm! (See my video on IGTV/YouTube channel for hacks and how to thread a coat though a carrier). ❄️Favour front carries of possible so you can keep each other warm and avoid carrying your baby facing the world when it’s very cold to shield them from the elements. ❄️ Keep extremities warm! Gloves, Hats: woollen hats with strings will ensure the hat is kept on, especially when back carrying (check out Lucy’s hats @golly_gumdrops ), thick woollen socks from yours, truly. More info: link in bio) ❄️ Coat over sling: don’t put your coat under the sling, this makes it hard to tighten it, favour large coats you can close over the sling (use zip extensions- check out @zipusin or big safety pins), babywearing covers (check out @babywearingolivita ) or babywearing hoodies/coats (check out @wombatlondon , @boba for hoodies from @slumberroo ,@megreyse , Hannah @wearmybaby has lots of fab coats/covers. Use code ‘Hug5’ for a discount ). When using a babywearing coat, make sure your baby’s airways are clear the whole time, avoid closing the coat over their head. Need help? Another day, another BS rule imposed onto a new mother. East London MP @stellacreasy being told she can’t bring her tiny baby in not have proper maternity cover. You can’t just leave a tiny breastfed baby with a carer for long. They need you, they don’t even realise they’re a separate entity from you. Stella is all of us new mothers, trying to keep things together. A sling is an absolute saviour when you try to juggle everything, keep hands free, keep your baby close and breastfeed. Once again, a mother being told she has to do it all whilst imposing impossible rules and restrictions upon her. Surprising considering the house of commons is full of babies, whingeing, making random noises and complaining all the time 😂🤦🏼‍♀️. Stella, I saute you. Stand your ground. You are representing us, the #pregnantthenscrewed mothers. If you need help breastfeeding in your slings, drop me a DM, I’m local, and please, breastfeed your baby in the House of Commons, you’ll have a whole new debate on your hands ❤️
Today, 6 years ago, ‘Papa Sam’ and I eloped with our closest friends in tow, Harrison in a wrap, boobing most of the ceremony, a very east end wedding on the cheap and it was the best day ever! Today we are also celebrating 10 years together, 2 kids, many cats, lost pregnancies and lots of happiness and happy memories. Today we took the day off to be together. We went out for brunch, mulled wine and Tate Modern to see the Kusama exhibition. We had a fab time! It’s hard to find time for ourselves when you have 2 kids, a business and a demanding job (not to mention the cats 😂), but today, we did it! Happy 10 years anniversary to us 🎉
